Diesel MFI Pump: Testing and Inspection




13 51 542 - Checking high-pressure pump (M47TU / M57TU / M57T2)





Special tools required:
- 12 7 420
- 13 5 450
- 13 5 455
- 13 5 456
- 13 5 457
- 61 4 390 61 4 390 Measuring Box, 60-Pin





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove air intake manifold (M47TU)
- Remove air intake manifold (M57TU)
- Remove air intake manifold (M57T2)





Important!
Before starting the engine, make sure no foreign bodies get into the combustion chamber.
Risk of damage.
Protect alternator against contamination.
Cover alternator with suitable apparatus.
Risk of damage.
Protect high-pressure pump against contamination. Replace high-pressure line.





Recycling:
Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.





Release union nut (1) (high-pressure line).

Installation:
Replace high-pressure line (2).
Tightening torque 13 53 8AZ 13 53 Fuel Injection Nozzles and Pipes.

Connect special tool 13 5 450 to high-pressure pump.

Important!
Special tool 13 5 455 may be used a maximum of 3 times.

Disconnect plug connection for pressure control valve (3) and rail pressure sensor (5). Connect special tools 13 5 456 and 13 5 457 between special tool 13 5 450 and engine wiring harness.

Connect return line (4).





Note:
M47TU only.
Connect special tools 12 7 420 and 61 4 390 61 4 390 Measuring Box, 60-Pin to control unit plug (X2412).
Jumper pin 32 (ground) to pin 2.





Note:
M47TU only.

Disconnect plug connection (1) at H.P. pump (2).





Note:
DDE software ≤V42 Diagnosis not possible.
DDE software V42 or ≥ V42 (reprogram if necessary).

DIS Tester procedure.
