Diesel MFI Pump: Service and Repair




13 51 004 - Removing and installing/replacing high-pressure pump (M57TU / M57T2)





Special tools required:






Important!
Protect alternator against engine oil, coolant or fuel.

Cover alternator with suitable apparatus (risk of damage!).





Recycling:
Catch and dispose of escaping fuel and coolant.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.





Important!
E65 with M57T2 only:

From production date 11/04 a high-pressure pump with a Woodruff key groove in the pump shaft is fitted!

Installation Note:
Position pump shaft so that groove in shaft and cast lug in drive sprocket wheel are flush.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove intake air manifold.
- Remove front splash guard.
- Remove fan cowl Service and Repair.
- Remove alternator drive belt.
- Drain coolant from radiator.
- Remove plastic return pipe.





Disconnect plug (1) at H.P. pump.

Detach fuel feed line (2).

Detach fuel return line (3).

Release high-pressure line union nut (4) with special tool 13 5 020.

Installation Note:
Replace high-pressure line.

Tightening torque 13 53 8AZ 13 53 Fuel Injection Nozzles and Pipes.





Open plug (1).

Installation Note:
Tightening torque 11 14 4AZ Mechanical Specifications.

Replace sealing ring.

Apply light coat of oil to seal.





Slacken nut (1).

Installation Note:
Tightening torque 13 52 2AZ 13 52 Injection Pump Drive.





Screw special tool 13 5 192 into timing case cover.





Firmly screw special tool 13 5 191 without jack screw (1) into sprocket wheel by hand.

Screw in jack screw (1) and pretension H.P. pump.





Unscrew nuts (1).

Note:
Illustrations show M47TU.





Tighten jack screw (1) until high-pressure pump is released from pump impeller.

Important!
Special tools 13 5 191 and 13 5 192 must remain in timing case for securing purposes and must not be removed under any circumstances (risk of damage!).

Remove jack screw (1) to install high-pressure pump.





Installation Note:
Replace gasket (1).

Note position of gasket.

Sealing faces must be dry and grease-free.





Installation Note:
To vent fuel system, turn on ignition for 1 minute.
