Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

11 14 151 Replacing the rear crankshaft seal (M57T2-SCR)





Necessary preliminary work:
^ Drain off engine oil
^ Remove flywheel





Unfasten oil sump screws on gearbox side.

Loosen oil sump.

Release bolt (2) and remove crankshaft sensor (3) in direction of arrow.





Remove multi-pole sensor gear.

Release bolts (1) and remove end cover.

Important!
Check oil sump gasket for damage after removing end cover.
If necessary, remove oil sump and replace oil sump gasket.

Note:
Illustration does not show oil sump.





Lubricate contact face of crankshaft.

Important!
When installing the end cover with crankshaft seal on the crankshaft, only the "support bushing (1)" may be used as a mounting tool.
Push on end cover with support bushing (1) straight and without tilting sideways.

Insert all screws and tighten down end cover.

Note:
Illustrations show M47TU.

Note:
Store the support bushing (1) of the new crankshaft seal version as a "special tool".

The old and new crankshaft seal versions can be installed with the support bushing (1).








Make sure fitting bushes (1) are correctly seated.

Fit sensor gear.





Note:
The end cover is supplied in the set with a built-in radial shaft seal and a support bushing. The support bushing is fitted on the crankshaft seal (to provide protection during transportation and storage).

Assemble engine.

Check engine for leak tightness.
