Fault text
No throttle valve adaptation values: new adaptation required

Fault description
The diagnostic function determines whether the throttle
valve reaches the emergency-air position during the start
test.

Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
The fault is recognized when the throttle valve fails to reach
the emergency-air position either when diagnosis starts or
from the 17 degree position following deactivation of
voltage (activation test).
Potential problem source(s):
- Throttle valve operation impaired by contamination
- Defect in wiring harness between throttle-valve actuator
motor and DME
- Defective throttle valve
Terminal condition: Terminal 15
Voltage condition:
- Electrical system voltage > 10 V
Temperature condition:
- Intake air temperature > -10 °C
- Coolant temperature > -10 °C
- Coolant temperature < 142 °C
Time condition:
- None
Other conditions:
- Terminal status switch without convenience start

Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory if
it remains present for longer than 1 sec.

Action in service
- Watch for collateral faults in initial adaptation,
- when not under current the two sensors must provide the
following voltage values: S1: 0.86 V (+/- 0.3 V), S2: 4.14 V
(+/- 0.3 V)
- Check the valve for contamination and sticking
- Check wires to throttle-valve sensors, visual examination
of plug contacts (at components, wiring harness and DME),
- Trigger initial adaptation with tester and determine
whether it detects faults, if so, repair these using test plan
- This fault does not usually make a component replacement
necessary

Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- none
Possible apparent symptoms:
- The fault triggers an initial adaptation, the vehicle can be
started as usual once the initial adaptation has been
completed
- If the adaptation diagnosis routines detect a fault then the
vehicle is in its limp-home mode

Driver information
Warning light:
- ECE emissions warning lamp: off
- US emissions warning lamp: off
- ECE electronic engine power reduction: off
- US electronic engine power reduction: off
- CC message: on

Service instruction
- To repair the fault determine whether the requested initial
adaptation has recognized faults and repair these using the
test plan.
