Rattle from the Front of the Instrument Panel
MODEL
F07 (5 Series Gran Turismo) produced up to November 4, 2009
SITUATION
A rattle may be heard from the front edge of the instrument panel, where it meets the windshield. This noise is noticeable primarily when driving on rough roads.
CAUSE
The trim on the instrument panel for the windshield vent is contacting the windshield.
CORRECTION
Remove the upper instrument panel trim, and install felt tape to the contact points.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the upper instrument panel trim per Repair Instruction REP 51 45 030.
2. The forward edge of the trim panel has 6 metal clips that secure it to the instrument panel. Secure a felt pad to each of the metal clips.
NOTE:
Each of the felt pads from the spare part should be cut in half and used for 2 clips.
3. Reinstall the upper instrument panel trim.
