11 65 020 Removing and Installing/Replacing Exhaust Turbocharger

11 65 020 Removing and installing / replacing exhaust turbocharger (M57T2)





Warning!
Scalding hazard!
Only perform these tasks on an engine that has cooled down.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
* Remove acoustic cover
* Remove diesel particulate filter
* Remove right pressure pipe
* Remove intake duct for intake noise damping
* Disconnect clean air pipe between air-mass sensor and turbocharger

Important!
In event of turbocharger damage:
* Pressure pipes





* Intercooler
* Intake plenum must be checked for foreign bodies, damage and operation.





Release banjo bolt (1).

Installation:
Tightening torque 11 42 2AZ.

Replace sealing rings.

Note:
Catch escaping engine oil in a suitable container.

Disconnect plug connection (2).

Release clamp (3).

Installation:
Replace clamp.

Tightening torque 11 65 1AZ.

Clean sealing surfaces.

Release screw (1) from oil return line.

Remove oil return line.

Tightening torque 11 42 3AZ.








Release screw (1).

Release bolt (2) and remove turbocharger (3).

Installation:
Replace gasket between turbocharger and exhaust manifold.





If necessary, replace turbocharger.

Modify oil return passage.

Release oil line banjo bolt (1).

Installation:
Tightening torque 11 42 2AZ.

Replace sealing rings.

Oil line (2) must run parallel to housing.

Assemble engine.





Important!
To avoid damaging the threads and prevent turbocharger leakage, insert retaining screws in 1/2 turns simultaneously.
