Cylinder Head Gasket: Service and Repair

11 12 101 - Replacing cylinder head gasket (M57T2)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cylinder head Removal and Replacement.





Important!
Replace cylinder head gasket each time cylinder head is removed.





Remove cylinder head gasket (1).
Pay attention to cylinder head gasket thickness (2), identifiable by number of holes from 1 to 3.

Important!
Clean all pocket hole tapped holes (3).
Remove oil and coolant (risk of cracking).

Clean sealing surface (4).





Use cylinder head gasket with the same thickness marking (1).
Number of holes 1 to 3.

Important!
If the piston clearance is altered by machining of the sealing surface on the engine block, the cylinder head gasket must be remeasured.
(Refer to Removing and installing piston Service and Repair).





Installation:
Joints between timing case cover and engine block are sealed with sealing strips stuck on as standard.
It is not necessary to apply a permanently elastic sealing compound.





Assemble engine.
