Creaking Noise from the Glove Box

MODEL
E89 (Z4) produced up to May, 4 2009

SITUATION
A creaking noise can be heard from the glove box when driving. If the glove box lid is pressed upward, the noise is no longer present.

CAUSE
Contact between the glove box housing and instrument panel trim

PROCEDURE

1. Open the glove box lid and apply special lubricant (Gleitmittel) to the locking tabs on the lid. Refer to the attachment B512209 Procedure.pdf for clarification.

2. Remove the glove box per Repair Instruction REP 51 16 366.

3. Apply a 30mm length of felt tape to the affected area shown in attachment B512209 Procedure.pdf for details.

4. When reinstalling the glove box, press it forward fully toward the bulkhead before fastening it in place.
