SUBJECT
E70 M57Y Diesel - Diagnosis for Low-pressure Fuel Supply Faults
MODEL
E70 with M57Y engine
The Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated (a "Fuel Pump Malfunction" message is displayed in the CC), and a combination of the following fault codes may be stored in the DDE control module:
^ 4BED/4BDD - Fuel pressure control, control deviation (pressure too high/too low)
^ 4BDB - Fuel pre-supply pressure control, control deviation/negative
In conjunction with the EKPS fault code:
^ 6292 - Control voltage too low, implausible signal currently present. There are no obvious drivability complaints associated with the stored fault codes.
Work through the corresponding ISTA test modules, mainly B1612_SPG00 (EKPS voltage control test) and B1365_D7USVDR (Fuel supply pre-pressure control).
Make sure to inspect the EKPS connector and wiring, and verify that they are intact and properly installed.
Clear the DDE and EKPS fault memory and test-drive the vehicle.
In case the fuel pressure supply fault codes (4BED/4BDD/4BDB/6292) are stored again with the CC message displayed, then replace the fuel overflow valve (P/N 13 51 8 506 862) located on the High-pressure Injection Pump (HDP).
[NEW]
1. In order to gain access to the High-pressure Injection Pump (HDP), remove the alternator.
2. Remove the overflow valve from the High-pressure Injection Pump (HDP) (1).
3. Use the clean engine oil to lubricate the valve's 0-ring.
4. Screw the replacement (P/N 13 51 8 506 862) overflow valve into the pump's body by hand, and then torque it to 20 Nm +/- 1.5.
