Noise, No Cooling Outlet

Repair instruction for noise from the engine compartment and no cooling output
Noises from the engine compartment even with the air conditioning system switched off or no cooling output even with the Max. Cool function switched on.

Cause
Belt pulley on air-conditioning compressor in 4-cylinder diesel engines.
The air-conditioning compressors of the 1 Series and 3 Series contain no magnetic clutch (see SBT 640104090).
If there is no fault, the drive shaft of the air-conditioning compressor is coupled via a driving plate (= torque limiter) with the belt pulley.

Repair instruction
Replace the driving plate on the air-conditioning compressor in line with repair instructions RA 6452065. Use a special tool so as not to damage the air-conditioning compressor.

When the driving plate is disengaged, the belt pulley of the air-conditioning compressor can be turned without driving the drive shaft of the air-conditioning compressor. See graphic.

However, it must be possible to use a tool to turn the drive shaft of the air-conditioning compressor easily and the drive shaft must not block.Uneven resistance on turning is normal due to the piston stroke in the air-conditioning compressor.

Using the repair kit for the driving plate with part number 64 52 6 989 408 can prevent very cost-intensive replacement of the air-conditioning compressor.
