10 00 0211 - Determining brake pad thickness, vehicles without CBS (Condition Based Service)





Note:
The brake pad thickness can be determined on BMW vehicles for all new models from 1990 without removing the wheels.
The prerequisite for this check is that original BMW disc wheels are fitted.
In addition, a distinction is made between vehicles with and without CBS.

Vehicles without CBS:

- - 3 Series: E36, E46

- 5 Series: E39

- 7 Series: E38

- Model series X3: E83

- Model series X5: E53

- Model series Z3: E36

- Model series Z4: E85, E86

- BMW / MINI: R50, R52, R53

Check using special tool, order number: 34 1 260





Procedure:
- Move vehicle until opening for brake pad wear indicator or brake pad can be seen through rim styling.

- Insert special tool through rim into opening for brake pad wear indicator.

- Press special tool onto brake pad. Slide ring (1) in direction of arrow up to stop and read off measured value.

- A = Brake disc

- B = Brake pad with backplate
