November 2009
Technical Service

PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS AND PRIOR TO RETAIL DELIVERY.

SUBJECT
Service Action: N63 - Remove Belt Drive Guard Bracket

MODEL
F01, F02 and F07 cars with N63 engines, produced from 12/07/2007 up to 10/27/2009

SITUATION
The belt guard bracket installed in front of the drive belt tensioner may vibrate with certain resonance frequencies at higher engine speeds, causing excessive engine noise.

CORRECTION
It has been determined that the belt guard bracket is not required on the N63 engine, and it should be removed.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves F01 (750i, 750i xDrive Sedan), F02 (750Li, 750Li xDrive Sedan) and F07 (550i Gran Turismo) cars equipped with the N63 engine produced from 12/07/2007 to 10/27/2009.

In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has had this Service Action completed or is affected by this Service Action, first check the B-pillar label for code number 554. If code number 554 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 554 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the front underbody protection panel.

2. Locate the belt drive guide bracket (1) positioned in front of the belt tensioner.

3. Remove and discard the bracket and its securing M6x12 mm bolt.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 554. After the vehicle has been checked and corrected, if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-366) and:

A. Emboss your BMW center warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

B. Punch out code number 554 (2), printed on the label; and

C. Affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one, because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
