Retrofit Spare Tire and Jack Kit

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series) 528i, 528i xDrive Sedan, 535i, 535i xDrive Sedan and 535i xDrive Sports Wagon
with M Sport Package (Option ZMP) produced in 2/09

SITUATION
Certain vehicles produced with the M Sports Package Option (ZMP) were not equipped with a spare tire or jack kit. The spare tire is not required, since these vehicles are equipped with run-flat tires. However, BMW of North America has decided to provide a temporary spare tire/wheel and jack kit for all affected vehicles at no additional charge. For those vehicles which have already been delivered, customers have the option of receiving the spare tire and jack kit, or retaining the storage tray which is installed from the factory.

PROCEDURE





Open the trunk.
Lift the luggage compartment floor trim and secure it in place using the rubber strap.





Remove the support (1), M8 nut (2), and storage divider (3). These parts can be discarded, as they will not be reused.





Using a plastic wedge, loosen the center storage tray as indicated by the dotted line. Lift out and discard the storage tray.





Mount the spare tire on the wheel; refer to Repair
Instruction RA 36 12 001. Please note that balancing is
not necessary. Place the tire with the valve side facing down into the
spare tire well.
Insert the foam storage tray.
Insert the tools as shown.

Place the washer over the mounting stud and install the
wing nut. Tighten the wing nut by hand to secure.
