Removing and Installing Power Steering Pump for Power Steering Gear with Dynamic Drive (N52/N53)
32 41 037 - Removing and installing power steering pump for power steering gear with Dynamic Drive (N52/N53)
Important!
Adhere to the utmost cleanliness. Do not allow any dirt to enter the hydraulic system.
Close off pipe connections with plugs.
Important!
Aluminium-magnesium materials.
No steel screws/bolts may be used due to the threat of electrochemical corrosion.
A magnesium crankcase requires aluminium screws/bolts exclusively.
Aluminium screws/bolts must be replaced each time they are released.
The end faces of aluminium screws/bolts are painted blue for the purposes of reliable identification.
Jointing torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage).
Note:
When replacing power steering pump:
Fluid reservoir Service and Repair must be replaced in event of metal abrasion, sluggish pump shaft or increased wear!
The filter integrated in the fluid reservoir can only absorb a limited amount of foreign particles. If the filter clogs, the hydraulic system can no longer be sufficiently protected.
Metal abrasion is perceived in the fluid reservoir as metallically glittering hydraulic fluid.
It is only necessary to replace the fluid reservoir because of leaks (e.g. at hose connections) only in the event of the unavoidably high ingress of dirt.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Draw off and dispose of hydraulic fluid from fluid reservoir
- Manual transmission incl. SMG: Relieve tension on drive belt and remove from power steering pump belt pulley
- Automatic transmission: Remove drive belt
Release bolts (1).
Tightening torque 32 41 5AZ Pump and Oil Supply.
Automatic transmission: Detach bracket for hydraulic lines from oil sump and slide downwards.
Unfasten banjo bolt (2).
Remove Dynamic Drive pressure line (3) with bracket from power steering pump and lay to one side.
Installation Note:
Replace all sealing rings.
Make sure hydraulic line is laid without tension and with sufficient spacing to adjoining components.
Tightening torque 32 41 3AZ Pump and Oil Supply.
Unfasten hose clip (1).
Detach suction line (2) from power steering pump.
Automatic transmission: Detach bracket for hydraulic lines from oil sump.
Unfasten banjo bolt (4).
Disconnect pressure line (3) from power steering pump.
Installation Note:
Replace all sealing rings.
Make sure hydraulic lines are laid without tension and with sufficient spacing to adjoining components.
Tightening torque 32 41 3AZ Pump and Oil Supply.
Remove suction filter housing Service and Repair.
Version with active front steering: Disconnect plug connection (1).
Release screw (2).
Installation Note:
Replace aluminium screws.
Observe screwing sequence.
Release bolts (1).
Remove power steering pump (2) downwards (in automatic transmission upwards).
Installation Note:
Replace aluminium screws.
Observe screwing sequence.
Screw-fastening sequence:
1. Secure power steering pump with screws
2. Tighten side screw to 2 Nm
3. Tighten front screws to 2 Nm
4. Tighten down front screws to jointing torque and angle of rotation
Tightening torque 32 41 1AZ Pump and Oil Supply.
5. Release screw at side and check screw fastening point for gap freedom
6. Tighten down side screw to jointing torque and angle of rotation
Tightening torque 32 41 1AZ Pump and Oil Supply.
After installation:
- Fill and bleed hydraulic system Bleeding Power Steering (Version with Dynamic Drive)
- Check pipe connections for leaks
- If necessary, carry out initial Dynamic Drive operation Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
