Starter Motor: Service and Repair

12 41 020 Removing And Installing/replacing Starter Motor (N54, N55)







Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Read out fault memory of DME control unit.
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery negative lead.
- Remove intake plenum.







Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Release nut (2) and disconnect positive battery cable (3).

Tightening torque 12 42 2AZ.

Release bolts and remove starter motor.

Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ.

Tightening torque 12 41 2AZ.







Installation note:
Check starter pinion and ring gear for Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace starter motor if necessary.
