SUBJECT
Soft Top Does Not Close Fully

MODEL
E88 (1 Series Convertible)

SITUATION
Intermittently the soft top does not close fully. When this occurs, the soft top stops approximately 2/3 of the way to fully closed, and the pump continues to run.

CAUSE
The control cable for the headliner may get caught on an adjustment screw. When the soft top is open, this control cable is loose. When closing the top, this control cable is pulled tight. If the cable becomes caught on the adjustment screws, it will cause the soft top to bind during closing.

CORRECTION
Release the trapped control cable and wrap felt tape around the adjustment screw.

PROCEDURE
Open the soft top approximately halfway.

Identify the control cable and adjustment screw on the left or right side of the soft top as shown in the attachment B540509 Procedure.pdf, and wrap the adjustment screw with felt tape.

Perform the same procedure to the opposite side of the soft top.
