Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair




17 21 010 - Removing and installing/replacing transmission oil cooler (GS7S47BG SMG)





Important!
It is essential to adhere to the exact filling capacities specified.
Fill transmission at room temperature only (approx. 20 - 30 °C).
Refer to Transmission oil replacement Service and Repair.
Gear oil:
refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids.
Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the transmission.





Recycling:
Catch and dispose of gear oil with suitable equipment.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Unscrew and remove splash guard.
- Remove reinforcement plate Service and Repair
Important notes on installation are described in this work step
- Remove heat shields
- Drain transmission oil





Disconnect connector (1).





Release union nut (1).
Tightening torque 23 41 19AZ [1][2]Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle.
Remove oil cooler connection (2).
Tightening torque 23 41 20AZ [1][2]Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle.





Release banjo bolt (1).

Installation Note:
Replace banjo bolt with seal.
Tightening torque 23 41 18AZ [1][2]Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle.





Release screw (1). Remove gear oil cooler in direction of arrow.
Tightening torque 23 41 16AZ [1][2]Automatically Shifted Manual Transmission/Transaxle.





Installation Note:
Journal (1) on gear oil cooler must be secured in rubber grommet (2).
