Removing and Installing Rear Air Conditioner (With Cooler Box)




64 11 198 - Removing and installing rear air conditioner (with cooler box)





Warning!
Risk of injury!
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Follow safety instructions for handling R 134a refrigerant.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

Warning!
To ensure that the refrigerant is almost completely drained from the rear air conditioner:
In the Diagnosis and Information System (DIS) under Service Functions, carry out the instructions for "Draining/filling refrigerant circuit".





Important!
Risk of damage!
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Follow instructions Removal and Replacement for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit.
If A/C system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replacing desiccant insert for A/C system





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Drawing off refrigerant from the A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a) is not included in the time value of this operation
- Remove cover (optional extra: cooler box) Removing and Installing Complete Armrest for Rear Seat Backrest
- Remove panel for luggage compartment partition





Release screws (1).
Detach refrigerant lines (2) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Replace sealing rings and moisten with refrigerant oil.
Observe tightening torque, 64 52 1AZ [1][2]Specifications.

Unscrew nut (3).





Unscrew nuts (1).
Remove compensating shims (2).

Installation Note:
Make sure compensating shims (2) are in correct installation position.
Tighten nuts (1) to specified torque: Tightening torque 64 11 5AZ [1][2]Mechanical Specifications.





Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Release nuts (2) slightly.
Pull out condensate drain (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Make sure condensate drain (3) is correctly seated.





Lift off air ducts (1) and pull out.

Installation Note:
Make sure air ducts (1) are correctly seated.

Pull out rear air conditioner (2) together with cooler box (3) in direction of arrow.





After installation:
- Evacuate and fill A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a)
