Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Left or Right Shock Absorber




33 52 000 - Removing and installing/replacing rear left or right shock absorber





Important!
Pull the fuse on the air supply unit to prevent unintentional air spring system control.

Note:
Read and comply with Information on replacing shock absorbers Information on Replacing Shock Absorbers.





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove rear wheel Removing or Installing Front or Rear Wheel
- Deactivate and drain air spring system Draining/Filling Air Spring System
- M5: Remove luggage compartment wheel arch trim
- Remove floor panel underlay





Important!
Before tightening screw connection, check that shock absorber pin is correctly positioned in swinging arm.
Screw must not be used as an aid to installing the shock absorber!





Release screw (1).

Important!
Secure shock absorber against falling out.

Remove shock absorber (2) from swinging arm and tie back.

Installation Note:
Replace screw.
Tightening torque 33 52 1AZ Shock Absorbers (Rear).





M5:
Disconnect plug connection (1).

Important!
When replacing the shock absorber, you must also replace the adapter lead (2).





Note:
Luggage compartment wheel arch trim has been removed only for improved clarity.

Unscrew nut (1).

Remove support pot (2) and support bearing (3) towards top.
Remove shock absorber downwards.

Installation Note:
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque 33 52 2AZ Shock Absorbers (Rear).





Replacement:
Remove spacer sleeve (1), support bearing (2), support pot (3) and damper with protective tube (4).

Installation Note:
Check support bearing (2) and damper with protective tube (4), replace if necessary.





After installation:
- Activate and fill air suspension system Draining/Filling Air Spring System
