Replacing A/C System Compressor (M57/M54)

64 52 523 - Replacing A/C system compressor (M57/M54)





Special tools required:
- 32 1 270 32 1 270 Plugs (Set)





Warning!
Risk of injury!

Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

Follow safety instructions for handling R 134a refrigerant.

Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!

Follow safety instructions for handling refrigerant oil Instructions for Handling Refrigerant Oil (for Refrigerant R 134a).





Important!
Risk of damage!

Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.

Read and comply with notes on replacing compressor. Specifications

Follow instructions Removal and Replacement for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit!

If A/C system is opened for more than 24 hours:

Replace desiccant insert for A/C system





Necessary preliminary tasks:
All:

- Drawing off refrigerant from A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a) is not included in the time value of this operation
- Remove front underbody protection Removing and Installing / Replacing Front Underbody Protection
Only M57:

- Remove pressure pipe
M54 only:

- Release coolant expansion tank, disconnect plug connection Service and Repair and place coolant expansion tank to one side





Version with Dynamic Drive:

Do not release pressure lines on active stabilizer.

Press lock (1) on distributor (2) and detach vent line (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Make sure vent line (3) is correctly seated in distributor (2).

Lower stabilizer on front axle.





Version with Dynamic Drive:

Release nuts (1) and (2).

Remove retaining fixture (3).

Installation Note:
Make sure retaining fixture (3) is correctly seated.





All:

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Release screws (2).

Detach refrigerant lines (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation Note:
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ Specifications.

Replace all sealing rings and moisten with refrigerant oil.





Important!
Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 32 1 270 Plugs (Set) to prevent escape of media and fouling.





All:

Note:
Secure A/C compressor (2) against falling out.

Release bolts (1).

Feed out A/C compressor (2) in direction of arrow.





After installation:

- Evacuate and fill A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a)
