SITUATION
The customer complains that after turning off the engine, a slight rattle noise is heard from the engine compartment. This noise is similar to a mechanical typewriter. In addition, the customer also complains of a slight reduction of power, similar to an increased turbo lag.
CAUSE
The vacuum supply to the waste gates may be restricted or blocked. The vacuum supply hoses that connect the pressure converter or vacuum solenoid (EPDM) can kink if they are bent too sharply or not installed in the hose retaining clip properly. Refer to the illustrations below.
The vacuum hose (1) is not installed in the retaining clip (2) properly, resulting in restriction of the vacuum supply hose.
The waste gate vacuum solenoids (1) may not receive the proper volume due to a kinked or restricted vacuum supply hose (2).
