SUBJECT
Floor Mat Retainer in Wrong Location

MODEL

E91 (3 Series Sports Wagon) equipped with all-wheel drive and produced from 8/27/07 to 9/29/07
E92 (3 Series Coupe) equipped with all-wheel drive and produced from 8/31/07 to 9/25/07

SITUATION
Beginning with the 2008MY, the floor mat attachment strategy for 3 Series cars has been changed to prevent the mat from moving in relation to the carpet. The floor mats are now backed by an anti-slip material. In addition, the Velcro retaining augers are now only present on the driver's side and have pre-punched holes in the carpet.

The inboard pre-punched hole closest to the transmission tunnel was made in the wrong location. As a result, the retention auger will be visible after the floor mat is installed and may not secure the carpet properly.

CAUSE
The pre-punched hole in the carpet was made in the wrong location.

CORRECTION
Create a new hole in the correct location and properly secure the floor mat.

PROCEDURE

1. Verify that the hole in the carpet is in the wrong location by installing both retaining augers in the pre-punched holes, and then fitting the floor mat. If the right side Velcro retainer is visible, proceed with the following modification:

2. Lift the right side of the floor mat away from the retaining auger.

3. Unscrew the auger from the carpet.

4. Place the auger in the center of the round Velcro pad on the underside of the floor mat.

5. Place the floor mat back down on the carpet and press down on it to create a slight indentation on the carpet.

6. Remove the floor mat completely.

7. Use a 3mm center punch (P/N 83 30 0 495 995) to create a hole where the slight indentation was made.

8. Screw the auger into the new hole in the carpet.

9. The two augers in the carpet should now be 22cm from each other, from center to center.

10. Correctly position the floor mat on the floor.
