SUBJECT
Buzzing Noise from the Center Vent Area

MODEL
E82, E88 (1 Series)

SITUATION
When the engine is idling or when accelerating from low RPM, a buzzing noise can be heard from inside the car, in the area of the instrument panel center vents.

CAUSE
An air conditioning (AC) line, which is secured to the engine compartment side of the bulkhead, is vibrating in its plastic clip.

CORRECTION
Isolate the AC line, using felt tape.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the cowl panel trim from the engine compartment per Repair Instruction RA51 13 123.

2. Identify the AC line in the bracket on the bulkhead (1). It is located directly below the right side wiper pivot.

3. Remove the AC line from the plastic clip.

4. Wrap felt tape around the AC line and seat it back into the clip.

5. Inspect the area where the AC line passes through the bulkhead from the engine compartment side, to ensure that it's not in direct contact with the bulkhead itself, and adjust as necessary.
