SUBJECT
Clicking Noise from the Bottom of the A-pillar
MODEL
E88 (1 Series Convertible) produced up to 3/2008
SITUATION
A clicking noise may be heard from the bottom of the A-pillar where it meets the top of the instrument panel, when driving over rough surfaces.
CAUSE
Excess urethane from the windshield installation has cemented the A-pillar trim panel to the windshield, and therefore it does not move with the instrument panel as the body flexes.
[NEW] PROCEDURE
The problem has been integrated into ISTA diagnostics. Follow the diagnosis test plan, using the latest ISTA version.
In "Information Search", select the "Function Structure" tab. Select Body, Mechanism, noises, instrument panel, then press "Start Search". Select test plan "B5116_E87MECH1" noise from dashboard and center console.
