SUBJECT
Soft Top Hydraulic System Inoperative

MODEL
E88 (1 Series) produced up to 9/2009

The convertible top is inoperative and one of the following fault codes is stored in the Convertible Top Module (CVM):

A69D - valve F1 signal or value below threshold

A69E - valve F2 signal or value below threshold

A69F - valve F3 signal or value below threshold

CAUSE
One of the solenoid valves contained in the hydraulic unit has failed.

If the soft top is in an intermediate position, pressure is held in the hydraulic circuit by the solenoid valves. This pressure is only held for a finite period of time (up to several minutes) as an overheat protection for the solenoids. If a power cycle is performed, such as cycling the key while the soft top is in an intermediate position, this overheat protection counter is reset. As a result, the solenoid could overheat and fail.

CORRECTION
Replace the affected solenoid.

It is not necessary to replace the complete hydraulic unit for this concern.

PROCEDURE

Replace the affected solenoid valve per the instructions outlined in the attached procedure 51B540609 Procedure.pdf.
