Soft Top Cover and Headliner Replacements
MODEL
E88 (1 Series Convertible)
INFORMATION
During approximately the first year of Series production, several running production changes were made to the convertible top assembly.
Specifically, from 1/13/08 to 8/25/2008, a zipper was present in the front bow area of both the headliner and soft top cover, in order to secure the two parts to each other.
Spare parts of both soft top covers and headliners may be mixed, with or without zippers. Eventually, all spare parts will be of the design level without the zipper.
Regardless of whether the vehicle originally had the zipper present, the zipper is not necessary for proper functioning of the convertible top. The remaining fastening strategy will properly secure the headliner and soft top cover.
All available spare part soft top covers and headliners may be installed on any production date vehicle. However, a minor modification may be required.
Therefore, when replacing the soft top cover or the headliner:
^ If the vehicle has a zipper and the necessary spare part (soft top cover or headliner) has a zipper, it should be used and secured.
^ If the vehicle has a zipper and the necessary spare part does NOT have a zipper, the zipper should be cut off the part which is not being replaced, and the spare part should be installed.
^ If the vehicle does NOT have a zipper, but the spare part does have one, the zipper should be cut off the spare part and then it should be installed.
It is not necessary to replace the soft top cover and the headliner together. Warranty claims for such work may be refused.
