SUBJECT
Squeak from Rear Trim with the Convertible Top Open

MODEL
E88 (1 Series Convertible) produced up to 5/2008

SITUATION





When driving with the convertible top fully open, a squeaking noise can be heard from the area of the upper rear side trim/linkage flap. The noise may be heard from one or both sides of the car.

CAUSE
Hard contact between the linkage flap retainer and the body of the vehicle

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear upper side trim panel per Repair Instruction RA 51 43 012.





2. Turn the trim panel over and use a file to remove A=1.0mm of material from the rear outside edge of the retaining hook shown.

3. Reassemble the trim and verify that the squeak has been eliminated.
