SUBJECT
Convertible Top Material Loose at Rear Bow

MODEL
E88 (1 Series) produced up to 3/2008

SITUATION
The convertible top material may begin to separate from the convertible top frame in the middle of the rear bow, below the rear window. When the convertible top is fully closed, the material appears bowed upward in the affected area.

CAUSE
The plastic retaining flange which is sewn into the convertible top cover that secures it to the frame, has fractured and begun to separate.

CORRECTION
The convertible top cover retaining flange has been reinforced.

PROCEDURE

1. Replace the convertible top cover per repair instruction RA 54 34 120.

NOTE:
The necessary repair instruction may not yet be available via TIS. Until these instructions are available via TIS, please refer to the attached draft version.

2. The specified closing tool (2) and lock tool (3) for the zipper are currently unavailable. In the interim, use the following parts to perform this step:

a. In place of the closing tool, use the joining/sliding piece which is included in the E88 headliner mounting kit. This kit also contains necessary rivets and fasteners for the repair.

b. In place of the lock tool, use the E36 rear window clip and plate to close and secure the zipper.
