51 71 120 - Removing and installing/replacing cowl panel seal





Special tools required:





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- If necessary, open soft top
- Remove trim strip on rain gutter on left and right
- Remove roofliner trim





Important!
Risk of contamination!
Seal is secured to cowl panel A-pillar transition with butylene tape.

Carefully pull out seal from A-pillar strip, release along window frame and remove.

Remove butyl completely from seal and body.
Observe valid safety regulations when handling cleaning agent.





Pull off door mucket (1) to a length of approx. 10 cm.
Clean A-pillar corner and cowl panel in marked area with spirit.





Clean cowl panel strip (1) in end area with spirit.





Clean inner sealing knot (1) on cowl panel seal (2) with spirit.





Stick outer butylene pad (15x20 mm) to screw fastening points of cowl panel strip on cowl panel flange.
(1) - Contact, edge, Prestole cage
(2) - Slight protrusion
(3) - Clean contact with edge





Note:
1. - Length, butylene thread (1): 8 cm
2. - Diameter, butylene thread (1): 6 mm

Stick on butylene thread (1) as pictured starting at cowl panel strip (2) and with 1 cm overlap.
Ensure clean contact in transition area to butylene pad (3).

Important!
Stick on butylene thread (1) in straight line and with wedge shape to corner.





Guide butylene thread (1) under A-pillar strip (2) and stick on with approx. 1 cm overlap.





Note:
1. - Length, butylene thread (1): 2 cm
2. - Diameter, butylene thread (1): 6 mm
Stick on butylene thread (1) as pictured starting at A-pillar strip (2) at top.
Using a suitable tool (3), press in butylene thread (1) and connect with long thread (4).





Important!
Butylene thread (1) must not project into A-pillar seal guide area (2).





Apply approved anti-friction agent below first screw fastening point (1) to A-pillar strip (2) at top and bottom.

Important!
Do not apply any anti-friction agent in area of butylene thread.





Apply approved anti-friction agent after second screw fastening point (1).

Important!
Do not apply any anti-friction agent in area of butylene thread.





Carefully position seal (1) on A-pillar strip (2) and push in.

Important!
Butylene thread must not be displaced.

Anti-friction agent must not encroach onto sealing surface, therefore pull back seal by max. 1 cm if difficult to move.





Attach door mucket (1) fully and press down.
Tilt knot (2) slightly and carefully guide over butylene thread.
Attach knot to cowl panel and firmly press down in all directions.





Press down seal (1) with special tool 51 0 300.
Spread excess length towards middle.
