54 34 006 - Removing and installing/replacing left hydraulic cylinder for convertible top compartment lid
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Follow repair instructions for hydraulic system
- Remove side trim panel upper section Removing and Installing/Replacing Rear Left or Right Upper Side Trim Section
Caution!
Hydraulic fluid may emerge from the disconnected lines and the open connections on the hydraulic cylinder.
Protect components and work area with suitable materials (e.g. cloths).
When working on hydraulic system, observe the following:
- Hydraulic system must be at zero pressure.
- Disconnect supply and return lines as late as possible, with convertible top stowed and in untensioned state.
- Shortly before removing lines screw tank on hydraulic control unit open and closed once.
Important!
Never lift off ball socket with engaged retainer.
Replaced overelongated retainers.
Before installation, grease ball socket if necessary.
Installation:
Pack grease into two opposite positions in socket.
The grease spreads after installation on the ball pin all round in the ball socket.
Removing/installing ball sockets:
1. Push on retainer in direction of groove with screwdriver
2. Lift off ball socket from ball pin
3. Slide retainer back
4. Fit ball socket on ball stud and snap into place with force
Support convertible top compartment lid with suitable apparatus.
Removing hydraulic cylinder on left or right:
- Push on locking clamps (1)
- Detach ball sockets at sides.
- Feed out hydraulic cylinder.
Disconnecting hydraulic lines from cylinder:
Detach cable tie.
Open retainer (1) at bottom/top on cylinder with screwdriver.
Detach hydraulic lines (2).
Important!
Protect joints (lines and cylinder) against dripping fluid, e.g. with a cleaning cloth.
Observe hose markings.
Note:
New hydraulic cylinders are supplied in retracted state.
Check fluid level Testing and Inspection and top up if necessary.
