54 34 130 - Replacing roofliner
Special tools required:
Warning!
Soft top becomes pressureless without a warning signal.
For all work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.
Ensure Convertible top is supported in the middle.
Ignition must remain switched off during the repair work.
Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the hydraulic valves incurring preliminary damage.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cowl panel trim 54 34 127 Removing and Installing/Replacing Trim For Cowl Panel
Release screw (1) on left and right from roofliner plastic profile (2) on roof tip.
Tightening torque 54 34 12AZ 54 34 Motor-Driven Convertible Top (Electrical Components).
Installation Note:
Retaining lug of roofliner plastic profile must be correctly seated in roof tip guide.
Pull roofliner clamping profile (1) out of roof tip channel (2).
Important!
Risk of damage to roofliner. Remove retainers from roofliner clamping profile (1) for subsequent work steps.
Installation Note:
Pay attention to centre markings on roofliner clamping profile (1) and roof tip channel (2).
Refit retainers on roofliner clamping profile (1). If necessary, remove all retainers from roof tip channel (2).
Remove retainers (1) on left and right.
Disconnect zip fastener (2) connecting Convertible top fabric to roofliner.
Installation Note:
Pay attention to centre markings (3) on both zip fasteners.
Close zip fastener with zip fastener slide (1) from fastening set or with closing pliers (2).
Important!
Zip fastener must close easily, do not use force to close.
Zip fastener must be fully closed.
Insert end piece retainers through both zip fastener ends and close with pliers.
Work steps for front bow and main bow:
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 54 34 13AZ 54 34 Motor-Driven Convertible Top (Electrical Components).
Unclip roofliner clamping profile (2) from bow.

Overview of tension cables:
Disconnect rivet connections (1) from short tension cable.
Installation:
Make sure guide fitting of short tension cable (3) is correctly seated.
Important!
Long tension cable (4) must not be cut off or shortened. Replace long tension cable (4) if damaged.
Untie knot of long tension cable (4). Feed out long tension cable from main pillar plate (7).
Installation:
Tie knot of long tension cable (4) to outermost end.
Adhere to cable protrusion after knot of A = 5 mm.
Open clip (5) of guide strap (6) on main pillar plate (7).
Release screw (8) on short lower contour cable.
Tightening torque 54 34 15AZ 54 34 Motor-Driven Convertible Top (Electrical Components).
Disconnect rivet connection (9) from short upper contour cable.
Release screw (2) on roofliner rubber strap.
Tightening torque 54 34 16AZ 54 34 Motor-Driven Convertible Top (Electrical Components).
Important!
Remove all rivet remnants.
Installation Note:
Pull roofliner rubber strap (2) out of roofliner (1).
If necessary, cut off roofliner rubber strap (2) in area (4).
Fold roofliner rubber strap and feed screw with washer (5) through both holes (3).
Important!
Routing of roofliner rubber strap above short tension cable.
Pull C-pillar clamping profile (1) from below upwards out of rear roof frame seal rail (2).
Installation Note:
Make sure C-pillar clamping profile guide lug (1) is correctly seated in rear roof frame seal rail (2).
Pull plastic holding profile (2) on left and right out of rear tensioning bracket seal (1).
Left side:
Important!
Risk of damage - make sure tension cables are correctly laid. Lay Convertible top fabric tension cable (2) under long roofliner tension cable (6).
Eyelets of tension cables must be mounted facing outwards.
Disconnect rivet connections (4) and remove rivet remnants.
Feed Convertible top fabric tension cable (2) from lug (5).
Adhere to order of tension cables without fail:
1.Short tension cable (1) (coming from above)
2.Convertible top fabric tension cable (2) (coming from below)
3.Rubber strap (3).
Right side:
Important!
Risk of damage - make sure tension cables are correctly laid. On right side lay Convertible top fabric tension cable (1) under wiring harness (2).
Work steps are identical to left side.
Unclip fabric retaining plate (1) on left and right from tensioning bracket (2).
Installation Note:
Pull long contour cable (2) out of roofliner guide (1).
Secure long lower contour cable (2) against slipping back in roofliner guide (1).
Untie and dispose of mounting cable (3).
Suspend loop of long contour cable (2) in clip (4) of fabric retaining plate.
Make sure lug (5) of fabric retaining plate is correctly seated in tensioning bracket.
Disconnect left and right plug connections (1).
Important!
Carefully lever out roof liner clamping profile (2).
Carefully drive roofliner clamping profile (2) with special tool 00 9 317 out of roofliner retaining rail (3).
Installation Note:
Pay attention to centre markings on roofliner clamping profile (1) and roofliner retaining rail.
Important!
Risk of damage to roofliner.
If necessary, remove all retainers from roofliner retaining rail.
Wrap special tool 00 9 319 in foam material.
Pull roofliner taut (1) when fitting.
Using special tool 00 9 319, knock roofliner (1) from middle on left and right into roofliner retaining rail.
Note:
Picture shows Convertible top with soft top fabric removed for purposes of clarity.
Disconnect rear rivet connections (1) from corner bow (4).
Disconnect front rivet connection (2) from corner bow (4).
Remove roofliner (3) from corner bow (4).
Important!
Remove all rivet remnants from corner bow channel.
