Navigation System - Loses Position/No Altitude Displayed

Loss of Navigation GPS Position

MODEL
E88 (1 Series) with SA 609 (Navigation System) and SA 639 (BMW Assist)

Vehicles produced from October 28, 2007 to March 1, 2009

SITUATION
The customer complains that the navigation system intermittently loses position, and the altitude is not shown in the vehicle location. The GPS reception may be restored when the convertible top is open.

CAUSE
The TCU (Telematics Control Unit) interferes with the GPS receiver due to EMI (Electromagnetic Interference).

PROCEDURE
Do not replace any parts.
