Convertible Top Hydraulic Cylinder: Service and Repair

54 34 012 Removing And Installing/Replacing Hydraulic Cylinder For Convertible Top

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Observe notes on EH convertible top.
- Remove convertible top
- Remove hydraulic unit

Installation:
- Carry out function test
- Check fluid level, remove/replenish if necessary
- Check convertible top adjustment.







Release screws (1); if necessary, raise convertible top slightly and remove microswitch (2).

NOTE: Further information in MG61

Disconnecting hydraulic lines:
- Cut through cable ties
- Remove clips
- Pull out hydraulic line at top
- Unscrew plate
- Pull out hydraulic line at bottom

NOTE: Seal hydraulic lines with caps (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Installation:
Pay attention to routing and seating of hydraulic lines.







Release cable holder (1).
Release screw (2).
14AZ Convertible top frame to main bearing
M6 11 Nm
Release and remove pin (3).







Unclip cover.
Mark position of screw heads (1).

Release screws and remove main bearing with hydraulic cylinder.
Replacement only:
Screw (1) must be replaced and is supplied with range of space parts.







Installation:
Fit thin spacer between bracket and frame.
Return screws to original position.
Tighten down bolts.
12AZ Main bearing to convertible top frame (B-pillar)
M8 17 Nm







Replacement only:
- Release screws (1) and remove shims (2).
- If necessary, remove hardtop mounting
