SUBJECT
Rattling Noise from Door Panel

MODEL
E86 (Z4 Coupe) produced up to 10/11/2006

SITUATION
The customer may hear a rattling noise coming from the front area of one or both door panels while driving over rough surfaces.

CAUSE
A section of the door wiring harness may rattle against the door speaker, or the back side of the door panel.

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis, install a foam block around the wiring harness as indicated in the following procedure.

This corrective action has been in place in production from 10/11/06.

PROCEDURE
1. Remove the door panel from the side which the rattle was heard per repair instruction RA 51 41 000.





2. Install a foam block (1) P/N 51 46 1 969 465 onto the wiring harness, about 1" from the connectors for the switch block.
3. Re-install the door panel and verify that the rattling noise has been eliminated.
