Heating and Air Conditioning in Default Mode
(Air Only Blows from Defrost)

SITUATION
The customer states they are not able to control which vent the air comes from. Air only comes from the defroster vents. One or more of the following faults may be set in the IHKA:
^ 9C4A - stepper motor dynamic pressure
^ 9C4B - stepper motor footwell right
^ 9C4C - stepper motor footwell left
^ 9C4D - stepper motor layering left
^ 9C4E - stepper motor ventilation left
^ 9C4F - stepper motor ventilation right
^ 9C48 - stepper motor defrost
^ 9C49 - stepper motor fresh air/circulating air
^ 9C50 - stepper motor layering right
^ E708 - LIN Bus error
CAUSE
Faulty stepper motor or LIN Bus caused by water intrusion via the filtered air duct.
PROCEDURE
1. Inspect the dynamic pressure stepper motor for signs of corrosion at the electrical connector. The dynamic pressure stepper motor is located behind the glove compartment below the blower motor housing. Refer to the attachment that identifies the dynamic pressure stepper motor (2).
2. If the stepper motor indicates water damage, replace the stepper motor and repair the wiring as needed. If no water damage is found, follow through with the DIS test plan for the stored faults and proceed to step 4 of this procedure.
3. Replace the "filtered air duct". Refer to Repair manual 64 31 053. Ensure that the duct is secured properly to the fresh air intake port via the retaining clips.
4. After the repair has been made the new stepper motor needs to be re-addressed using the DIS/GT1. Select Function selection\Service functions\Body\Heating and air conditioning functions\flap motors\Re-address flap motors\Test plan.
5. Clear all faults and check system for proper operation.
