SUBJECT
Gear Shifter CC Message in CID

MODEL
E70 (X5) Vehicles produced up to March 1, 2007

SITUATION
The customer complains that when turning the ignition on, the following Check Control (CC) message is shown in the CID (Central Information Display) - "Shift lever malfunc. Continued driving possible. Try shifting again if necessary". Functionality of the GWS (Gear Selector Switch) is not affected.

The following faults are stored in the EGS (Electronic transmission Control):

^ 50DC - Gear position sensor

^ CF2F - Message (via LIN) from GWS: electric gear selector switch

^ CF30 - Message (via CAN) from GWS: electric gear selector switch

CAUSE
An erroneous GWS reset during a driving cycle interrupts communication with the GWS. As a result, the CC message is displayed the next time that KL-15 is switched on.

[NEW] PROCEDURE
This problem has been integrated into the BMW diagnosis system. Follow diagnostics and relevant test plan(s) using DIS V51.0 or later.
