Service Action: Install Engine Compartment Foam Seal
MODEL
E70 (X5)
SITUATION
The engine compartment of the vehicles concerned may not be sealed properly, and as a result, could allow in an excessive amount of dirt and dust.
CAUSE
An unsealed space exists between the air conditioning lines and the radiator air duct.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Action involves X5 vehicles which were produced from September 22, 2006 through November 15, 2006.
In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

PROCEDURE
1. If the vehicle has a seal (1) secured to the vertical flange on the rear edge of the radiator air duct, it must be removed and discarded.
2. Install a foam seal (1) P/N 51 74 7 200 034, to the area between the rear edge of the radiator air duct and the air conditioning lines. The seal should be seated on the vertical flange from which the previous seal was removed.
Note: The top of the foam block should be even with the adjacent top seal.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Service Action has been assigned code number 483. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (SD 92-320) and:
a. emboss your BMW dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 483 printed on the label and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
