SUBJECT
Clicking Noise from 2nd Row Seat upon Entry or Exit
MODEL
E70 (X5) produced up to January 7, 2007 and equipped with a 3rd row seat (option code 4UB)
SITUATION
The customer may notice a squeaking or clicking noise from the 2nd row seat frame when a passenger enters or exits the 2nd row seat.
CAUSE
Movement between the spring linkage located below the seat cushion and the seat frame to which it is secured.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis, felt tape should be applied between the spring linkage and the seat frame to act as a buffer between the two parts of the affected seat.
PROCEDURE
1. Raise the left side 2nd row seat using the easy entry feature.
2. Remove the 2 cable straps and the clip which holds the 2 seat springs together under the seat bottom.
3. Pull each spring (1) back toward the rear of the seat and press upward to release it from the catch (2).
4. Now that the spring tension has been released, feed the front of the spring through the front of the seat frame.
5. Lower the seat from the easy entry position.
6. Apply a 1/2 inch long piece of felt tape to the front of the seat frame (1). This felt should be applied to the area between the hole in the frame and the detent stamped into the frame.
Note:
This felt is easiest applied from the front of the seat, between the seat bottom cushion and lower trim.
7. Re-install the spring mat.
8. Install 2 new cable straps and re-install the original clip that held the springs together.
9. Repeat this procedure for the right side 2nd row seat.
