BMW Assist(R) - Initialization Procedure

SUBJECT
Status Check of BMW Assist(TM) Initialization at QC1

MODEL
E70 (X5) vehicle equipped with ZPP (Premium Package) or SA639 (BMW Assist(TM)) produced up to 4/2/2007 production

SITUATION

In order for BMW Assist(TM) services to function properly, an initialization procedure must be performed to activate these functions on the vehicle.

Some E70 (X5) vehicles will be delivered to you without the BMW Assist(TM) services initialized. Until further notice the status of BMW Assist(TM) initialization must be checked as part of the Quality Certification (QC1) on all E70 vehicles.

[NEW] Note:
All vehicles produced after April 2, 2007 have BMW Assist(TM) initialized at the plant. It is NOT necessary to check the status of BMW Assist(TM) on any X5 produced after April 2, 2007.

[NEW] As with all vehicles equipped with BMW Assist[NEW], the CBS handover inspection and BMW Assist(TM) test call must be performed as part of the QC1. Reimbursement of these steps is part of the QC1 payment. Refer to SI B00 05 06 for more details.

PROCEDURE

1. Check the status of the BMW Assist(TM) services using the following procedure.





2. Press the "Menu" button and ensure that the Central Information Display (CID) is set to the basic menu screen.

3. Press down briefly on the controller to enter the i menu.

4. Select "Settings" and press down on the controller.

5. Scroll down and select "Communication Interface".





6. The "Assist Settings" menu will then be displayed.





7. Select "BMW Service settings."

8. Select "Service Status."

^ If "Update Services" and "Terminate Services" are displayed, no further action is required. If "Enable services" is displayed, BMW Assist(TM) must be initialized. Refer to SI B84 15 03 for the proper procedure on how to Enable services.
