Starter Motor: Service and Repair

12 41 020 - Removing and installing/replacing starter motor (S85)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Switch off ignition
- Disconnect battery negative lead Disconnecting and Connecting Battery Negative Lead and cover
- Remove reinforcement plate
- Remove rear underbody protection
- Remove propeller shaft Removing and Installing Complete Propeller Shaft (Constant-Velocity Joint)
- Remove intake air manifold Service and Repair
- Remove right idle speed actuator 13 41 555 Replacing Both Idle Speed Actuators (S85)





Unlock plug (1) and remove.
Unfasten nut.
Tightening torque 12 41 2AZ. 12 41 Starter Motor With Mounting
Remove battery positive lead (2).





Release screw (1).
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ 12 41 Starter Motor With Mounting.
Pull starter motor out of transmission mount and remove.





Installation Note:
Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace damaged parts if necessary.
