Clutch Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Clutch Position Sensor (PLCD)

For each clutching and declutching action, the sequential M-transmission control module requires the exact position of the clutch. The coupling is operated via the clutch operating cylinder. The displacement is detected without contact via a PLCD sensor (PLCD = Permanent Linear Contactless Displacement).

Brief description of components
The PLCD sensor is integrated on the clutch operating cylinder and it passes on the clutch travel.

A round solenoid is attached to the moving piston. It is shifted with the cylinder piston parallel to a coil core seated, firmly cast, in a separate casing. The change in the induced stress is a measurement of the position of the clutch.
