SUBJECT
S85 - DME 02 Sensor Faults 2742/2743
MODEL
M5, M6 with the S85 engine produced up to 3/08
The customer complains that the "Service Engine Soon" (MIL) lamp is illuminated.
The DME fault codes "2742-Oxygen sensor diagnostic heater resistance VKAT bank 1" and/or "2743-Oxygen sensor diagnostic heater resistance VKAT bank 2" are stored in the DME.
The environmental conditions show a heater resistance between 12.5 Ohm and 13 Ohm, and there are no other 02 sensor faults stored in the DME.
There is no drivability complaint associated with this issue.
CAUSE
DME calibration
PROCEDURE
Only if the current vehicle integration level is E060-07-09-530 or lower, program the vehicle using the latest ISTA/P version.
Once the programming and coding session is completed, perform a test drive until the engine is at full operating temperature, followed by an extended idle of 10 minutes. Read the fault memory again and if the faults do not recur, release the vehicle to the customer.
If these oxygen sensor faults recur, or if the current integration level is higher than E060-07-09-530, continue troubleshooting by following the corresponding diagnostic test plans.
