Overview of functions
The S85 has an exhaust gas temperature sensor for each cylinder bank. The exhaust gas temperature sensor are located in the exhaust line after the engine-proximate catalytic converters and are used by the DME for cat. protection.

NOTE: As of 03/2006, the signals of the exhaust gas temperature sensors will no longer be used in the DME! The signals will be replaced by calculated exhaust-gas temperatures. The exhaust gas temperature sensors will no longer be diagnosed in the DME, either. However, until further notice the components will still be fitted in the vehicles.
