Removing and Installing Engine




11 00 050 - Removing and installing engine (S85)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove underbody protection Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Underbody Protection.
- Remove both front wheels Removing or Installing Front or Rear Wheel.
- Remove fresh air duct Service and Repair.
- Remove SMG transmission Removing and Installing Transmission (GS7S47BG SMG) [23].
- Remove front wall.
- Remove oil filter housing Removing and Installing, Sealing/Replacing Main Flow Oil Filter.
- Drain coolant.
- Remove module carrier with radiator.
- Remove expansion tank.
- Detach coolant hose from auxiliary water pump.
- Draw off hydraulic fluid [32].
- Remove fluid reservoir with lines for steering gear.
- Draw off A/C system Drawing off, Evacuating and Filling A/C System (R 134a).
- Detach lines Replacing A/C System Compressor (S85) from A/C compressor.
- Disconnect all plug connections in electronics box.
- Remove both intake filter housings.
- Remove intake air manifold Service and Repair.
- Disconnect hose for crankcase ventilation.
- Disconnect hose for suction jet pump.
- Remove heat shield on front axle carrier.
- Release steering spindle.
- Remove left and right oxygen sensors.
- Remove left and right temperature sensors [17,62].
- Release grounding strap on engine support arm.
- Unscrew left and right engine mounts.
- Carefully lift out engine with two persons.





Important!
Risk of damage to steering gear and oil sump.





Assemble engine.
