Removing and Installing Left Cylinder Head




11 12 105 - Removing and installing left cylinder head (S85)





Special tools required:
- 11 5 210 11 5 210 Protective Cover
- 11 5 220 11 5 220 Protective Covers
- 11 5 352 11 5 350 Retaining Fixture





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove exhaust system Service and Repair.
- Remove left exhaust manifold.
- Unfasten engine wiring harness and lay to one side.
- Remove left cylinder head cover [1][2]Removing and Installing/Sealing Left Cylinder Head Cover.
- Remove left inlet camshaft Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Inlet Camshaft.
- Remove left exhaust camshaft Removing and Installing/Replacing Left Exhaust Camshaft.





Attach special tool 11 5 220 11 5 220 Protective Covers.
Insert special tool 11 5 210 11 5 210 Protective Cover.
Unclip linkage (1).





Detach hoses (2) from holder (1).





Release screws (1).





Cylinder head bolt (1) with shim.





Do not remove special tool 11 5 352 11 5 350 Retaining Fixture.
Release cylinder head bolts from outside to inside in sequence (12 to 1).





Note:
Replace cylinder head gasket Service and Repair.
Check cylinder head Testing and Inspection for water leaks.

Installation:
Fit new cylinder head screws.





Tighten down cylinder head bolts from inside to outside in sequence (1 to 12).
Tightening torque: 11 12 1AZ 11 12 Cylinder Head with Cover.





Insert screws (1).
Tightening torque: 11 12 1AZ 11 12 Cylinder Head with Cover.





Installation:
Modifying check valves, refer to SI-11 01 05 Fault memory entries in DME.

In engines where it is not possible to connect check valves, replace the vacuum-controlled check valves with self-opening check valves.

Vacuum lines will then no longer be required.





Assemble engine.
