Starter Motor: Service and Repair

12 41 020 - Removing and installing/replacing starter motor (N73)





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery.
- Remove right exhaust manifold Removing and Installing/Replacing Right Exhaust Manifold.
- Disconnect battery negative lead and cover.





Unfasten screws.
Remove heat shield (1).





Unscrew nuts.
Tightening torque: 12 41 4AZ 12 41 Starter and Mounting Parts.
Remove lines (1).





Release screws and pull release out of transmission mounting and remove.
Tightening torque: 12 41 1AZ 12 41 Starter and Mounting Parts.





Assemble engine.

Installation Note:
Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace damaged parts if necessary.
