64 51 001 - Cleaning evaporator
Special tools required:
- 64 1 280 64 1 280 Spraying Apparatus for A/C System
Note:
For information on cleaning agent and rinsing again, refer to Service Information.
For information on spraying equipment, refer to Service Information Special Tools and Equipment.
Warning!
When handling cleaning agent, observe following protection measures:
Wear protective rubber gloves and protective goggles.
If cleaning agent comes into contact with eyes or skin, wash immediately with lots of water.
Important!
To avoid dirtying vehicle interior:
- Close all air vents
- Heater - A/C system must be switched to recirculated-air mode
- Cover carpet in work area
Recycling:
Carry out the cleaning operation in a suitable washing bay as the emerging cleaning agent escapes through the drain openings in the transmission tunnel.
After completing cleaning, allow car to drip-dry for approx. 5 minutes.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove transmission underbody protection Removing and Installing Automatic Transmission (6HP26Z/6HP32Z)
- Move steering column in "top" and "extended" position.
- Remove evaporator temperature sensor Replacing Evaporator Temperature Sensor (High automatic A/C)
Release screw (1).
Remove left footwell air duct (2) in direction of arrow.
Installation:
Make sure air duct in footwell on left (2) is correctly seated on heating - A/C system (3).
Important!
Risk of damage!
To avoid damaging special tool 64 1 280 , carry out a function check before starting cleaning.
It must be possible for the folding spray element (1) to be inserted exactly into guide lug (2) so that special tool 64 1 280 64 1 280 Spraying Apparatus for A/C System can be guided out of heater without incurring damage.
Insert guide lug of special tool 64 1 280 64 1 280 Spraying Apparatus for A/C System into opening (1) for evaporator temperature sensor and leave in this position.
Guide (1) must be firmly seated in opening for temperature sensor (2).
Arrows (3) must point in direction of travel.
Move spray lance (1) inwards.
Release clamping screw (2) and pull out guide wire (3) in order to position the folding spray element vertically.
Connect spray lance (1) to spray equipment.
By carefully moving spray lance (1) back and forth, spray a uniform amount of cleaning agent onto evaporator.
After completion of cleaning and subsequent flushing, slide spray lance (1) into middle of heater.
Release clamping screw (2) and push in guide wire (3) in order to position the folding spray element horizontally.
For this purpose, the heat-shrinkable sleeve located on guide wire (3) must rest against clamping screw holder.
Secure guide wire (3) with clamping screw (2) in this position.
It is now possible for the folding spray element to be inserted exactly into the guide lug so that special tool 64 1 280 64 1 280 Spraying Apparatus for A/C System can be removed carefully from the heater.
Note:
Set heating - A/C system to footwell ventilation and fresh-air mode. Open windows/doors.
Start car and run heating - A/C system at max. fan power for approx. 5 minutes in order to dry evaporator.
In order to eliminate the last remnants of cleaning agent, repeat this procedure shortly before handover to the customer.
