84 50 033 - Removing and installing/replacing multiband telephone antenna
Special tools required:
- 00 9 317 00 9 317 Trim Panel Wedge
Applicable to vehicles up to 03/03 only
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove insert on rear console 51 44 180 - Removing and installing / replacing rear console insert / make-up mirror in rear compartment.
Unclip plug connections (1) from insert on rear console (2) and disconnect.
Installation:
Attach a cord to one of the two antenna lead to be fed out to make it easier to feed in later.
Removal
Further removal of multiband telephone antenna is described separately from installation.
Note:
Clean roof.
Carefully heat up vehicle roof in antenna area with hot-air blower (max. 50 °C).
Using special tool 00 9 317 00 9 317 Trim Panel Wedge, release seal of multiband telephone antenna (1) all round in direction of arrow.
Raise multiband telephone antenna (1), feed out antenna leads underneath and remove multiband telephone antenna (1).
Important!
Risk of damage!
Do not under any circumstances treat adhesive residue with scratching, grinding materials or any materials that may dissolve the paint or plastic.
Remove adhesive residue with spirit; use adhesive remover (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) to remove larger residues.
Installation
Installation of multiband telephone antenna is described separately from removal.
Note:
Temperature of vehicle roof and multiband telephone antenna must be at least 18 °C.
Clean bonding surfaces with spirit and leave to dry (air drying time at least 1 minute).
After this, do not touch bonding surfaces any more.
Note:
Double-sided adhesive tape (1) is provided with both enclosed and perforated protective film.
Pull off enclosed protective film from double-sided adhesive tape (1).
Stick double-sided adhesive tape (1) as illustrated from rear side to tip centrally onto multiband telephone antenna (2).
Feed in antenna leads (1) using previously pulled-in cord or wire (2) and connect plug connections.
Pull off perforated protective film (1).
Note:
Do not touch bonding surface of multiband telephone antenna (2).
Mount multiband telephone antenna (2) so that positionings (3) can slide simultaneously into holes (4).
Place multiband telephone antenna (2) in position.
Note:
Change position of multiband telephone antenna (1) max. three times so as not to impair adhesive effect of adhesive.
Press down telephone antenna (1) at small intervals (1-2 cm) all round with firm thumb pressure.
Note:
To guarantee a permanent bond:
- Once it has been pressed down once, double-sided adhesive tape must not be reused after it has been detached - it must be replaced.
- Only use washing installations after a period of 24 hours has passed.
