Removing and Installing/Replacing Front Muffler

18 12 040 - Removing and installing/replacing front muffler (N62, N62TU)





Special tools required:
- 00 2 210 00 2 210 Exhaust Pipe Cutter
- 31 2 220 31 2 220 Support Plate





Warning!
Scalding hazard!

Only perform these tasks after exhaust system has cooled down.





Support front muffler with lifter and special tool 31 2 220 31 2 220 Support Plate and secure against falling out.





While installed, mark length (A) with aid of replacement muffler on faulty front muffler.





Cut both exhaust pipes with special tool 00 2 210 00 2 210 Exhaust Pipe Cutter at marked points and deburr.





Release nuts on holder (1).

Unscrew nuts (2).

Remove primary muffler.





Connect new front muffler with central muffler using clamping sleeves.

Installation Note:
Nuts point downwards.

Align clamping sleeves so that:



Cutting line is in middle of clamping sleeve.



There is sufficient spacing to adjoining components.
