SUBJECT
Active Backrest Width Adjustment Inoperative

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series Sedan and Sports Wagon) produced from 11/2006 to 1/2007, and equipped with Multi-contour seats (option 456)

SITUATION
The active backrest width adjustment is inoperative. One of the following "actuator fault" fault codes may be stored: A709, A723, A769, A783.

CAUSE
Faulty wiring harness in the area near the backrest width adjustment connection

CORRECTION
Replace the affected wiring harness.

PROCEDURE
Replace the seat wiring harness on the affected seat per repair instruction RA 61 12 270.
